Fermentation Aid, Carbon Source, and Nitrogen Source in Biocontrol Crop Protection Products

Add to favourites
Biocontrol crop protection products have gained significant attention in recent years as a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional chemical pesticides. These products utilize beneficial microorganisms to suppress plant diseases and control pests. To ensure the effectiveness of these biocontrol agents, fermentation aids, carbon sources, and nitrogen sources play crucial roles in their production.

Nitrogen sources are crucial for the synthesis of proteins and other essential cellular components in microorganisms. They play a vital role in the growth and development of beneficial microorganisms during fermentation. Common nitrogen sources used in biocontrol crop protection products include organic compounds like corn protein extract – Solulys -, potato protein - Turbamine, pea protein - Nutralys and Lysamine. These nitrogen sources provide the necessary nutrients for the microorganisms along with other growth- factors such as vitamins, and trace elements to thrive and produce bioactive compounds that can suppress plant diseases and pests.

Carbon sources are essential for the growth and metabolism of microorganisms. They serve as an energy and carbon supply for the microorganisms during fermentation. Common carbon sources used in biocontrol crop protection products include sugars, such as glucose syrup, dextrose (dextrose monohydrate, anhydrous dextrose, and maltodextrins - the Glucidex® range of Roquette. These sugars are easily metabolized by the microorganisms, promoting their growth and the production of bioactive compounds. The choice of carbon source can influence the yield and quality of the biocontrol agents, as different microorganisms have varying preferences for carbon sources. In particular, roquette range of Glucidex® IT with a large range of 14 different grades which extend from 3 to 20 dextrose equivalent, are granulated products to facilitate handling during media preparation.

To complete our product range, we have a range of proper selection fermentation aids for the purification and stabilization processes such as encapsulation, filtration and granulation. Roquette offer polyols such as mannitol ( Pearlitol ) and sorbitol ( Neosorb ) in drying process, and maltodextrines - Glucidex® - used in granulation processes.

Furthermore, the use of fermentation aids, carbon sources, and nitrogen sources in biocontrol crop protection products aligns with sustainable agricultural practices. These products reduce reliance on chemical pesticides, minimize environmental pollution, and promote the preservation of beneficial organisms in agroecosystems. They offer a promising solution for sustainable crop protection, ensuring the health and productivity of agricultural systems while minimizing negative impacts on the environment and human health.
