Built for flexibility: the Azelis supply chain network across EMEA

Add to favourites
Most procurement managers and formulators do not spend much time thinking about the infrastructure behind their ingredient deliveries. They do not need to - until something goes wrong. Then the questions arrive quickly. Where is the stock held? Are there alternative sources? How long does rerouting take? Who is coordinating across the freight chain?

The answers depend heavily on how the supply chain network supporting your orders is built - and on the people running it. This article explains how we handle it at Azelis - and what that means in practice for your supply.

A network built on capability, not just coverage

A distributor can have warehouse locations across every European market and still be unable to protect your supply when conditions tighten. What matters is not the number of locations but what those locations can actually do - and how the network responds when the expected path is no longer available.

The Azelis logistics network across EMEA is well established. In most European countries, we have longstanding warehouse partnerships in place, ensuring consistent, best-in-class and fully compliant service across the region.

The network is designed around what products and customers actually need. Around 80% of the portfolio can be handled in standard ambient warehousing. The remaining 20% requires something more specific: temperature-controlled storage, hazardous materials handling or facilities with particular regulatory certifications. Both are part of our integrated network.

Our warehouse partners do considerably more than store product. They manage palletisation to customer-specific requirements, handle relabelling and repackaging and ensure full regulatory compliance at every step. In practical terms, this means that what arrives at your facility is not just the right product - it is the right product, correctly packaged, correctly labelled, and compliant with every applicable standard.

"Our job is only complete when the goods are delivered to the customer on time and in full" Anna Velentza, EMEA Customer Experience Pillar Head says. "Shipping the goods is not the end of the process. Warehouses play a critical role in achieving this - they help us transform a shipment into a compliant, customer-ready delivery."

Beyond warehousing, we are also able to offer internal production and repacking capabilities: blending, compounding, extraction, customised output and specialised processing that allow us to adapt product specifications directly to your requirements - something most pure distribution competitors cannot match.

MEA: a different operating environment

For our customers receiving goods in the Middle East or Africa, or for European customers sourcing from principals based in those regions, the logistics picture is more complex.

Mireille Al Najjar manages supply chain operations at Azelis across the MEA cluster. Her team works across markets with fragmented regulatory systems, country-specific documentation requirements, diverse banking rules and - in some markets - significant geopolitical exposure.

"Moving goods from France to Germany is relatively straightforward within the EU" Mireille explains. "Moving goods into Saudi Arabia, Egypt, South Africa, Lebanon, the UAE or Morocco requires a tailored compliance and documentation approach for each destination. Supply chains in MEA require earlier planning, deeper regulatory coordination, and very close collaboration with customers and partners."

This matters to European customers even when their own deliveries stay within Europe. Disruptions in MEA trade corridors routinely spill into European supply chains. When shipping lanes through the Gulf become constrained, lead times for European customers sourcing from certain origins lengthen - even when their supply routes are technically separate. A supply chain partner with active operations and relationships in MEA markets is better positioned to detect those effects early, before they arrive at your facility as a surprise.

Our network across EMEA is not static. In Europe, where the infrastructure is mature, our focus is on ensuring the best service at the best cost. In MEA, where markets are developing rapidly and new customer clusters emerge regularly, we apply a dynamic approach: positioning close to growth, adapting to local conditions and building the partnerships that make reliable service possible in structurally complex markets.

In both regions, the principle is the same: the network exists to serve your supply continuity - not the other way around.
