Povidone (PVP): A Versatile Polymer for Diverse Applications
Povidone (PVP) is a water-soluble polymer that has become an essential excipient in the pharmaceutical industry. It is a free-flowing powder with spherical particle morphology which ensures an easy handling in the formulation laboratory and production.
Its key functions include acting as a binder for wet granulation, a stabilizer for suspensions, and a film-former in coatings.
Due to its non-ionic nature, formulators do not risk interactions with ionic APIs.

JHNH offers three main grades of povidone each suited to different pharmaceutical applications. PVP K 25 and PVP K30 offer high adhesive properties at a relatively low viscosity, so formulators can expect great results at 3 – 7 % PVP in the formulation. PVP K 90 offers more adhesive strength at a higher viscosity, so formulators can even use a lower percentage of 1 – 3 %.
